The Republic volleyball team won its 15th match of the season Wednesday, sweeping Marshfield on the road, 25-14 25-22, 27-25. It’s the second win by Republic this week, after the Lady Tigers dropped three straight to close the Hillcrest Classic Saturday.
“Tonight we did fix some things that we’ve been struggling with the past week,” said coach Allison Davis. “We did clean some of those errors up tonight, but then we struggled in other areas.”
Davis said the team did show a continuing mental toughness that has been present throughout the first 19 matches of the season.
“Tonight the girls proved again that they can overcome some mental blocks, dig deep, and fight back,” she said.
Davis said the Lady Tigers will need to be more consistent as the season’s second half approaches. After a weekend tournament, conference play will begin next week. (Senior Night is scheduled for September 22.)
Kailey Manes led the team defensively at the net with six blocks, and Alaina Norman had ten digs for Republic. Rilynn Finley led the team with ten kills. Finley and Manes each added two service aces, and Brooklyn Claxton tallied 20 assists.
Marshfield won the JV match 25-19 25-20, and Republic won the freshman match 25-12 25-20.
The Lady Tigers are 15-4. They play in the Springfield Classic this weekend.
