Lady Tigers Take Two in Saturday Play

Republic softball finished the Ozarks Fall Festival tournament with two wins Saturday, coming from behind to beat Glendale, then following it up with a blowout win against Monett. The Lady Tigers finished the weekend 3-2, improving their record to 8-4 overall.

Republic 6, Glendale 4

Saturday morning, Republic trailed 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, but scored four runs to take the come-from-behind win. Republic managed only four base hits — one of them a two-RBI double by Sammi Watson to key the game-winning rally. Jenna Belcher also had an RBI single in the inning, after Gracie Woods had bunted for a single and both baserunners had advanced on stolen bases.

Piper Dishman earned the win with five innings of work, allowing four runs on four hits. She struck out six and walked six.

Republic 9, Monett 1

In the afternoon game, Kara Goeke pitched six innings and allowed only a single unearned run to earn the win. She struck out five and walked two.

EmmaLee Essary continued her torrid hitting, socking two home runs and driving in three runs. Essary has five home runs since Tuesday and six for the season through 12 games.

Addie Brown also hit her first varsity home run for the Lady Tigers.
