Two of the top girls tennis programs in southwest Missouri are also two of the most evenly matched this season. Springfield Central and Republic squared off for the second time this season Wednesday, with Central squeaking out a 5-4 victory. Republic had edged Central in their first meeting at the Kickapoo Invitational.
Wednesday’s match came down to a nail-biter between each team’s top player — Jasmine Howard of Republic and Elana Hadi of Central, which Hadi won 9-7.
The team split the other eight matches, with Central winning two of the three doubles matches and each team winning three singles matches.
