In her first high school golf tournament since competing at state as a freshman, Republic’s Izzy Benson was again near the top of the standings. Benson placed second at the Joplin Invitational in Republic’s season debut.
Benson shot a 90 to finish as runner-up to Nevada’s Emree Cameron, who dominated the course and the rest of the field. Cameron shot a 66 to outplay the rest of the field by 24 strokes.
Benson’s second-place finish came in a field of nearly 40 golfers.
The Lady Tigers finished fourth as a team, with a combined score of 483. Carl Junction, Joplin, and Webb City were 1-2-3.
