Liberty’s Brock Toney held Republic to four base hits in a complete-game shutout, as the Blue Jays beat Republic 5-0 at U.S. Ballpark in Ozark. Liberty scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth inning, then added four more in the fifth.
Caide White, the Republic starter, shut out the defending state champs through the first three innings. But after giving up a run in the fourth, he failed to retire a batter in the fifth inning and was charged with all five Liberty runs. White allowed five hits, walked three, and struck out three.
Landon Carter pitched two innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Connor Sandridge, Adam Brown, Ace McWatters, and Mason Brewer each had one of Republic’s base hits. McWatters also walked once, and Wyatt Woods was hit by a pitch.
Those were the only runners to reach base all day against Toney. The University of Central Missouri commit struck out nine and walked one in seven innings.
Republic falls to 10-9 overall. Liberty is 18-7.
Republic plays at Parkview Monday, at Willard Tuesday, and home against Joplin Thursday.
