Both the boys and girls track teams opened their seasons by winning team titles at the Republic Classic Monday. The Tigers and Lady Tigers each scored twice as many points as the second-place team in the small-school field that traditionally makes up the first meet of the season.
Republic swept the girls relay races. Gracie Woods, Aaliyah Vasquez, Chloe McCann, and Jenna Belcher won the 4×100. Woods, Vasquez, Alaina Norman, and Kristin Probst won the 4×200. Vasquez, Woods,Norman, and Probst won the 4×400. Miha Nambara, Gracie Troester, Misora Nambara, and Probst won the 4×800.
Other individual winners among the girls included Kailey Manes (high jump), Riley Brown (pole vault), and Norman (javelin). Woods and Belcher finished 1-2 in the long jump.
The Republic boys won three of four relay races. The 4×200 team of Ahlante Askew, Drew Buchanan, Chase Buford, and Kendall Curbow finished first. So did the 4×400 relay team of Landen Finley, Miller Rountree, Will Fronabarger, and Devon McMillin*; and the 4×800 team of Ethan Haynes, Derrick Buchanan, Devon McMillin, and Will Fronabarger.
Other event winners included Landen Finley (400m), Miller Rountree (110m hurdles and 300m hurdles), Chase Buford (long jump), and Trysten Hart (shot put). Devon McMillin and Aslan Ebisch finished 1-2 in the 800m run.
Haynes finished his 3200-meter race in less than ten minutes, finishing in 9:57.8. That was more than a minute faster than the second-place competitor.
