Republic made just 20% of its shots from the field and failed to break the ten-point mark in any quarter, losing to Nixa 57-28 on the road Tuesday. The Tigers led 11-9 lead early in the second quarter, but from that point on, Nixa outscored Republic 48-17.
No matter what kind of shot Republic took, it was unlikely to go through the hoop. The Tigers made just seven of their 27 shots from inside the three-point arc. They were two-for-18 from three-point range. And even at the free throw line, the Tigers made only eight of 17 attempts.
The Eagles led 23-15 at halftime, but went on a 17-2 run to put Republic away. Nixa had three players in double figures, led by Kael Combs with 15.
Ahlante Askew finished with 12 points and nine rebounds to lead Republic in both categories.
Nixa is now 21-3. Republic falls to 14-10, and the Tigers have lost three in a row. They’ll try to rebound at home Friday when they host state-ranked Webb City.
