Ahlante Askew scored 24 points and Devon McMillin added 17 to lead Republic past Carl Junction on the road Friday, 75-46. The two combined for 16 points in the first quarter alone to help fuel the Tigers’ fast start.
Republic led 24-15 at the end of the first quarter and 39-24 at halftime. In the third quarter, the Tigers put the game away, outscoring Carl Junction 22-10 to built a 61-34 lead.
Will Fronabarger and Avery Moody got their first starts of the season. Both seniors had missed the first half of the season with injury and had returned to the lineup last week.
Isaiah Nabors, who had played in Tuesday’s win at Neosho but failed to score, showed signs of a smooth shooting touch. He made three three-pointers and finished with nine points, a career high.
Gunner Ellison also made a couple of three-pointers, finishing with eight points.
Republic improves to 9-6, 2-0 in the COC. The Tigers travel to Sedalia Smith-Cotton for a game next Tuesday, and we will carry it live on our YouTube channel.
