Four different Republic swimmers scored team points in the squad’s last swim meet at Foster Natatorium in Springfield. Karissa Metzger led the way with 24 points, finishing third in each of her two individual events. Lena Mais and Julia Walsh each scored ten points, and Maddy Barnes added two.
Metzger’s third-place finishes were in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. In the freestyle, she was about eight-tenths of a second behind winner Karsen Bennett. In the butterfly, Metzger shaved 1.12 seconds off her season-best time to finish in 1:05.58. That was .34 seconds behind winner Brooke Guyer.
Mais finished seventh in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:27.41. She was 10th in the 200-yard individual medley, at 3:19.73.
Julia Walsh finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:31.92. She was 12th in the 50-yard freestyle, at 33:13.
Barnes earned her points with an 11th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:27.08. That was more than 5 1/2 seconds faster than her previous best time in the event.
