Freshman Izzy Benson turned in her strongest showing yet on the golf course in a Republic uniform. Benson shot a 95 to finish ninth overall at the Willard Tournament at Greene Hills Country Club. It was her first-ever top-10 finish and her first high school medal.
Benson’s showing was indicative of the improvement shown by all three players on coach Curt Plotner’s squad this fall. Riley Gipson also turned in a career-best score Monday, shooting a 110. Lena Mais shot a 114, one shot off her previous best mark.
At Fremont Hills last week, Benson had shot a 97 to finish 12th.
“We are continuing to improve each time out,” Plotner said.
