Republic’s volleyball team won three of four matches at the Branson Invitational to open the season Saturday, finishing in third place. The Lady Tigers’ only loss was in three sets to a solid Lebanon team in the semifinals.

Republic opened its day with two wins in pool play, sweeping Springfield Parkview and Reeds Spring in two sets each. The Lady Tigers outscored those two opponents by 42 points.

In the quarterfinals of bracket play, Republic beat host Branson in three sets to earn a spot in the gold division semis. That’s where they lost to Lebanon.

“Overall, I am really pleased with our performance today. We worked on some specific things this past week in practice after our jamboree, and today they executed well,” said coach Allison Davis. “They played together well and worked hard, but came up short against a competitive Lebanon team. We’ll be ready for a rematch this coming Tuesday.”

Republic will have three matches next week. The Lady Tigers travel to Rogersville Monday, then host Lebanon Tuesday, with matches at Kickapoo Thursday.
