Just a few days after losing two sets to Rogersville in the preseason jamboree, Republic rebounded when it counted. The Lady Tigers swept their regular-season matchup with the Wildcats on Rogersville’s home floor, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23.
“Coming back from losing in the jamboree to winning in three close sets shows how quickly our mental toughness has grown,” said coach Allison Davis.
Kailey Manes had a big night, leading the team with 12 kills and four blocks. She and Kaemyn Bekemeier also had eight digs apiece, and Manes added five service aces. Payge Plank distributed the ball to the tune of 34 assists.
But even though Manes led the way across the scoresheet, Davis said everyone on the team turned in some kind of contribution to make it happen.
“This was a team win. We have stat leaders but everyone helped get this win tonight,” she said. “It was awesome!”
The Republic JV and freshman teams also won, both of them in three sets, 2-1.
Republic improves to 4-1 this season. The Lady Tigers return home Tuesday to host Lebanon, with another chance to avenge a loss. The Yellowjackets beat Republic in three sets at the Branson Invitational over the weekend.
