Republic used three big innings – three runs in the first, four runs in the third, and five runs in the fifth – to knock off Parkview 12-0 in five innings in Springfield Thursday. Jared Hughes drove in four runs, Kyle Hill homered, and Hill and and Richard Potter drove in three runs apiece to lead the Tigers. Vincent Pyeatt and Cade White combined for the five-inning one-hit.
Republic jumped ahead in the first inning when Pyeatt led off the game with a single and went to third on Gavyn Beckner’s double. Hill walked with one out, Pyeatt scored on a wild pitch, and both Beckner and Hill scored on a sacrifice fly by Hughes after the right fielder fell down while making the catch.
The Tigers added four more in the third, with the help of an error, two walks, and a hit batsman. The big blow was a bases-loaded double by Hughes that scored Beckner and Harrington. RBI groundouts by Connor Sandridge and Potter made the score 7-0.
Republic put the game out of reach with a five-run fifth inning. A three-run homer by Hill highlighted the inning. Potter knocked in the final two runs with a single that scored Sandridge and Adam Brown.
Parkview managed just one hit, a one-out single off Pyeatt in the fourth inning. Pyeatt retired the first nine batters before walking the leadoff man in the fourth. That runner went to third on the single, and that was as close as Parkview came to scoring all night.
Pyeatt struck out six and walked one in four innings to get the win. White worked a scoreless fifth, striking out two batters to close out the game.
Republic improves to 3-3. The Tigers will play Rolla at Parkview Friday afternoon.
