It’s official. Republic’s Karissa Metzger will be back at the state meet for a second year in a row – and just like last year, she’ll be participating in two events.
Metzger got the official word this morning that she made the cut in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 yard breaststroke. Only 24 swimmers will participate in each event – two-thirds of the normal number of qualifiers because of COVID restrictions.
In the IM, Metzger qualified with a time of 2:16.50. That’s tied for the 20th-best heading into the state meet next weekend.
In the breaststroke, Metzger has a time of 1:08.19, good for 11th overall going into the meet. But Metzger believes she has room for improvement and said her goal remains to win gold in St. Peters.
“I know I can be first in the 100 breaststroke,” she said after the SWMO swim regionals last weekend. “I feel there’s a ton of (room for) improvement. My turns can be fixed. That’s one of the things we’ve been working on in practice.”
