The Lady Tigers tennis team will meet Webb City for a team district championship today at 4 pm. The Lady Tigers advanced with a 5-0 win over Willard, sweeping all five completed matches – while leading in the three other matches that ended as soon as Republic clinched. The Republic/Webb City final is a rematch of last year’s district championship match, which Republic won 5-0.
Coach Dan Vales said his team has continued to play well after an outstanding performance during the separate district tournament for individual play Saturday.
“We had a great day of practice Monday, and the strong level of play continued into today’s match against Willard. I was very impressed with the play of senior Lauren Ueligger. She did a great job of taking care of put away volleys set up by her partner Wrigley,” Vales said.
Vales said the “game ball” for the day went to Abby McCord, who won her singles match without dropping a single game. “Abby showed great mental focus all night. It’s fun watching her game get stronger and stronger as she gains confidence in what she can do on the court,” he said. “Elsie, Jasmine, Sedalia, Morgan, and Mia also showed good fight in their singles matches too.”
