The Republic Tigers football defense has lit an unexpected spark to start the season. After allowing 32 points per game last year, the Tigers posted a shutout in their season opener, then allowed just one touchdown (after a short Willard drive following a blocked punt) in Week 2.
It’s the best two-game stretch for the Tiger defense since October 2005, when Republic beat Marshfield 42-7 and Willard 40-0 in back-to-back weeks. The week before, the Tigers beat Hillcrest 6-3, allowing a total of just ten points in three district games.
This year’s Tigers picked off two passes (interceptions by Landon Porter and Hayden Jones) and recovered two fumbles (both by Connor Sandridge) to secure the victory Friday night.
