The Lady Tigers tennis team finished its week with one of its best performances of the season in a 7-2 win against Bolivar Saturday. Coach Dan Vales called the performance “easily our best team win this season,” as Republic won four of six singles matches, then swept the doubles matches to clinch the win. Highlights included Elsie Crawford’s win at #1 singles over highly regarded Megan Roberts, and a doubles win by Crawford and Morgan Lewis over Alexis Berry and Roberts. Berry and Roberts were state qualifiers in doubles last year.
The JV team beat Bolivar 11-7.
Friday at the Nixa Tournament, Wrigley Cook and Abby McCord highlighted the day with a win in the Flight 2 doubles bracket. Cook and McCord beat two teams from Ozark and the top-seeded team from Forsyth on their way to the title. In the finals, Cook and McCord overcame a 5-1 deficit to win 8-5.
In Flight 1 doubles, Sedalia Shumaker and Morgan Lewis won two of three matches, finishing fifth.
Elsie Crawford finished second in Flight 1 singles, beating players from Clever and Forsyth before dropping a match to the top seed from Ozark in the finals.
In Flight 2 singles, Mia Stan drew the top seed in the first round and lost 8-6, but rebounded to win her next two matches, finishing seventh.
Thursday, the Lady Tigers swept Webb City 9-0. The JV team won 18 of 22 matches.
