For the second time this week, Republic’s tennis team dominated a Central Ozark Conference opponent in a 9-0 win. The Lady Tigers lost only 13 games in the night’s nine matches against Carl Junction.
Republic started the night with three doubles wins by identical scores. All three doubles teams – Elsie Crawford and Jasmine Howard, Abby McCord and Sedalia Shumaker, and Morgan Lewis and Anna Davidson – won by the score of 8-2.
In singles play, Crawford and McCord won 8-0. Howard and Shumaker won 8-1. Davidson won 8-2, and Lewis won 8-3.
Coach Dan Vales said it was “another good win” for his team. “I’d like to see us improve our footwork and consistency putting balls in play. We will need to keep raising our level of play as we prepare for matchups against other veteran squads.”
Republic’s young JV squad, filled with new and second-year players, also dominated, winning 16 of 20 matches.
The Lady Tigers improve to 3-3 (2-0 in the COC). The JV squad is 2-0.
