The Republic volleyball team is finally back on the court, and they celebrated with a win – after celebrating their two seniors on Senior Night. The Lady Tigers had been quarantined for two weeks after someone associated with the program tested positive for COVID-19. Their matches during those two weeks were rescheduled.
Republic returned to the court with a home match against Mt. Vernon and didn’t seem to need any time to knock the rust off their game. They won the first two sets to take control early.
“Coming back after being gone for 14+ days and having one hour practice before this game, the girls pulled it together for our two seniors,” said coach Allison Davis.
Mt. Vernon responded by capturing the next two sets, but the Lady Tigers broke ahead early in the decisive fifth set to take the win, 25-17, 25-22,17-25, 20-25, 15-12.
Kailey Manes had a huge night. She led Republic with 19 kills, five blocks, 15 digs, and three service aces. Payge Plank recorded 54 assists in the five-set match.
Before the match, Republic honored seniors Alycia Hauck and Ella Riggs.
“Our seniors may not be the loudest players on the court, but they definitely lead by example,” Davis said. “They’ve worked hard these past two years for me and the team, and tonight we had the chance to celebrate them and get a win.”
