Last Hurrah! COC Seniors Get One More Game

Central Ozark Conference schools have scheduled one last day of competition for seniors who lost their seasons to the statewide school shutdown. On June 29, conference schools will hold competitions for seniors in at least four of five spring sports: baseball, golf, soccer and tennis. Schools are still trying to determine if there are enough seniors to hold a conference track meet.

“We felt like it was important to give our student-athletes one last opportunity to put a Republic Tiger uniform on,” Republic Activities Director Trevyor Fisher said of the decision. “I’m sure it was devastating for them to lose their senior year, and the least we could do was allow them some sort of closure to end their high school athletic careers.”

The events will be held at four different locations: tennis at Republic and golf at Carthage, starting at 9 a.m.; soccer at Joplin at 6 p.m.; and baseball at Webb City at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. For baseball, players will be combined into four teams. For soccer, they’ll be combined into two teams.
