Off the Field: Garbee Named to Missouri Scholars 100

M GarbeeRepublic senior Mattison Garbee has earned a spot in the 2020 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri’s top academic students in this year’s graduating class. Missouri Scholars 100 is a program sponsored by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals.

Students must meet a wide range of qualifications to be considered for the honor. In addition to a high grade point average and high standardized test scores, they must have completed high-level courses in math, science, English, and foreign language.

Attendance, citizenship, and school activities are also considered – and Garbee had plenty of activities in her favor. She was a member of the Tiger Pride marching band, jazz band, the math team, History Club, World Cultures Club, Tiger Theatre, Key Club, National Honor Society, Prom Committee, and the Green Team.

After learning she met the qualifications, Garbee sent off her application and waited for the results. And she’s been happy to see the community support – especially given the sudden stop to the school year she and her classmates have experienced.

“I was pretty excited,” she said. “It’s been especially great getting all of this support online. I know I speak for all of the seniors when I say this year had been a little disappointing, but to know that the Republic community is still there to share in everyone’s successes, even if we can’t be physically present at school, is really great.”

The 2020 program is the 26th Annual Missouri Scholars 100 recognition.
