Skidmore Packs Lacrosse Stick for Missouri Valley

Republic’s Austin Skidmore has committed to play college lacrosse at Missouri Valley College in Marshall. Skidmore has played club lacrosse in Republic for several seasons, but said he’s looking forward to a faster-paced game when he gets to college.

“High school lacrosse is really toned down, and in college they have a shot clock, so it’s actually going to be a lot quicker game,” he said. “It’s going to be a big change for me, so I’m … really excited to get on campus and start learning the ways to play college lacrosse.”

Skidmore said he decided to attend Missouri Valley after visiting the campus and meeting the people involved in the program there.

“I talked to a few schools, but Missouri Valley was the only one I actually visited, and I absolutely loved the coaches. They were really inviting to me. I toured the campus and I actually practiced with the team. They were really cool guys.”

Skidmore also said he’s looking forward to getting to know his teammates, which include players from all over the United States, from Canada, and even from England. He said he hopes his signing shows the opportunity available to lacrosse players, even though it’s played as a club sport in Missouri.
