Last week, we told you the Lady Tigers tennis team was getting hot at just the right time. This week, we can confirm that we were right. The Lady Tigers followed up on the conference tournament championship with the single best day of individual district play in program history Friday at Carthage.
Five different Republic players advanced to individual sectionals. Hannah Morgan and Katie Stiles won the district doubles title by defeateing teammates Sedalia Shumaker and Abby McCord. It was the first time ever that Republic girls tennis had both entries in a district championship match. Both will advance to sectionals. So will Elsie Crawford, who finished second in the district.
Two days before that, Republic had won the team tennis district title for the first time since 2012. They did it with a 5-0 win over Webb City. Carly McAtee will join her teammates in the team sectionals to be played a week from today, on October 19.
