From every individual district tennis tournament, six players advance to the state sectionals. In Class 2 District 11, five of those six players are Republic Lady Tigers.
On a frigid Friday in Carthage, Republic put together its best individual district performance ever, advancing two doubles teams and one singles player to sectionals next week. The Lady Tigers were led by Hannah Morgan and Katie Stiles, who won the district doubles title with a win over their teammates. Sedalia Shumaker and Abby McCord advanced to the finals as well, before losing to Morgan and Stiles. Both teams will move on to sectionals.
In singles play, Elsie Crawford was the district runner-up, dropping the championship match to Astrid Cardenas of Joplin.
As district champs, Morgan and Stiles will play the runner-up from District 12 at sectionals next Tuesday. Crawford, Shumaker, and McCord will draw the District 12 winners in their sectional match.
Carly McAtee also competed for Republic in singles play, but failed to advance. She will join the Lady Tigers at the team sectionals on Saturday, October 19. Republic won the team district championship Wednesday by defeating Webb City 5-0.
