Nixa struck early and held on for a win at Republic Tuesday, spoiling the Lady Tigers’ Senior Night with an 8-5 decision. Nixa knocked out 15 base hits to hand Republic its first conference loss of the season.
The Lady Eagles scored two runs in the first inning, added single tallies in the second and third, then tacked on three more in the fifth and a single run in the sixth. Republic trailed 8-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before scoring three runs to cut the lead to 8-4. They brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh before the game ended.
Kaitlyn Ragsdale, Megan Weis, and Katie Anderson had two hits each for the Lady Tigers. Ragsdale scored twice and Anderson drove in two runs.
After the game, Republic honored five seniors: Katie Anderson, Jessie Jones, Megan Weis, Riley Laub, and Whitney Weaver. The Lady Tigers’ softball program has won 71 games so far during their four-year tenure with the program.
Republic is 12-6 overall this season. They’re 6-1 in the Central Ozark Conference.
