The Lady Tigers’ lineup exploded for double-digit runs for the second straight game, and Avery Romans pitched a two-hit shutout, as Republic hammered Hillcrest 11-0 Friday. A six-run fourth inning put the game away for Republic.
The Lady Tigers totaled 13 base hits, including two each by Katie Anderson, Avery Romans, Jaden Gibbs, and Jaci West. Anderson, Romans, and Emma White each scored two runs, and West drove i three.
Romans struck out three and didn’t walk a batter in her five-inning shutout. Only one runner reached second base for Hillcrest.
Republic scored first in the bottom of the second when West singled to center field to score Gibbs, then came around to score, giving Republic a 2-0 lead.
In the third, Anderson singled and scored on a hit by Romans. Later in the inning, Gives singled home Romans and Emma White to make the score 5-0.
The fourth inning started with bunt singles by Kaitlyn Ragsdale and Megan Weis. In-between, Ragsdale stole second and third base, so she was able to score on Weis’ squeeze-play bunt single. Weis scored on a double by AJ Fenske and Fenske scored on a double by Anderson. Romans drove home Anderson with a base hit. After Emma White drew a walk and two batters were retired, West doubled in Romans and White to make the score 11-0, where it ended.
Republic is 3-0. They won their last two games by a combined score of 27-2.
The Lady Tigers are back in action at home next Tuesday when they host Neosho for a Central Ozark Conference game.
