Republic managed only three base hits and committed four errors in a 3-0 loss at Webb City Thursday. Webb City’s Cade Beason struck out 12 Republic hitters to earn the complete-game win.
Jared Hughes pitched well in a losing cause for the Tigers. He worked six innings, allowing three runs — one earned — on nine hits. He struck out four and didn’t walk a batter.
Webb City’s first run came in the bottom of the second inning. Cale McCallister reached on a leadoff single, stole second and third base, then scored on an error by Republic catcher Jacob Crosswhite.
The Cardinals added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Two infield errors allowed two runners to reach base and Beason singled one of the them in to make the score 2-0. Bryson Mathews singled home another run to make it 3-0 Webb City.
Republic threatened to score only once. In the top of the sixth, Jacob Crosswhite singled with one out and advanced to third on a single by Jaden Duvall, but Beason struck out Tyler Cavener to end the inning.
Kyle Hill had the only other base hit for the Tigers, who drop to 10-10.
Republic is back in action Saturday.
