Douglas’ Record Run Paces Repmo District Performances

Twelve Republic athletes – eight girls and four boys – advanced to the state sectionals in ten different events at the district track meet in Carthage Saturday. Jasmyn Douglas broke a school record in the 800-meter run, winning the district championship.

Douglas was one of three Republic athletes to qualify for sectionals in three events. The others were Kaitlyn Ragsdale and Claye White.

Republic had six qualifiers in individual events overall: Ragsdale in the 100m dash and the 100m hurdles; Douglas in the 800m run; Lexi Reeves in the pole vault; White in the 400m dash, and A.J. Fenske in the discus.

Douglas, a sophomore, won the race of the day for Republic in the 800. She not only broke her own school record in the event with a time of 2:19.42, but she out-dueled Ozark senior Brocklyn Barber, the district favorite. The two raced down the stretch neck-and-neck, and Douglas won by six-hundredths of a second.
