Lady Tigers Split Games at Jefferson City

For a high school soccer team, there’s not much better than fighting through 100 minutes of scoreless play, then winning a game on penalty kicks.

There’s not much worse than turning around and playing a second game later that day.

The Lady Tigers experienced both extremes Friday at a tournament in Jefferson City, first beating the host Lady Jays 1-0 (5-4) in penalty kicks, then dropping a 6-0 decision to state-ranked Cape Girardeau Notre Dame Friday evening.

In the opener, Republic avenged an earlier 3-2 loss to Jefferson City by playing the Lady Jays through 100 scoreless minutes, then winning on Jessica Montenegro’s decisive penalty kick, 5-4. Goalkeeper Bella Drennan made the winning save.

The Lady Tigers enter this week with a 13-5 record.
