Lady Tigers Kick Off Busy Week with Win at Bolivar

Republic scored one goal in each half at Bolivar, beating the Liberators 2-0 to start a busy week of soccer. It was the first of four games scheduled for this week for the Lady Tigers, who step back into conference play Tuesday at home against Branson.

Republic got on the board in the first half when Anna Jones found Clara Fronabarger for the first goal of the night. In the second half, Republic doubled its lead when sisters Sarah and Abbie Hicks teamed for a goal, with Sarah assisting and Abbie finding the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Bella Drennan and the defense earned their second consecutive shutout.

Coach Kevin Hauck said the game had a “strange” feel to it, maybe because the varsity teams played before the junior varsity instead of after, as they usually do.

“It was kind of a strange game. The wind definitely played some factor in it,” he said. “It’s just a little bit different with the start time. happy we got out with a win.”

Fronabarger’s goal was her 20th of the season. She left the game late in the first half after being shaken up and didn’t return, but Hauck said he’s hopeful the injury isn’t serious.

After Tuesday’s game against Branson, Republic has a day off before hosting Carthage Thursday and Kickapoo Friday. With so many games coming up so quickly, Hauck said he’s thinking about how to keep his players ready to go later in the week.

“I’m trying to keep girls’ legs fresh by doing some rotating, trying to get some more minutes for other players. That’s the main thing that we’re trying to do…(to) be fresh by the end of this week when we go against Kickapoo on Friday,” Hauck said.

Republic is 9-3. The Lady Tigers have won seven of their last eight games after a 2-2 start.

Farr Better Player of the Game

With Republic leading 1-0, Abbie Hicks took a cross from her sister Sarah and put it in the back of the net. Her goal gave Republic some breathing room against an aggressive Bolivar team, and she’s our Farr Better Player of the Game.
