Republic’s home tennis season opened with a 7-2 win over Springfield Central. Th Tigers won all three doubles matches to take control, then won four of the six doubles matches to claim the victory.
One key to the night was a close win in the #1 doubles match, where Isaac Jordan and Kile Thornhill beat Sage Riddle and Alex Shunyakov in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (8-6).
Thornhill’s singles match also went to a tiebreaker, and he won that over Brian Liu 9-8 (7-4).
Including the three matchups in the Mt. Vernon tournament Wednesday, Republic is now 4-0 on the season.
