Ashley White didn’t have her best round of golf ever. But it was good enough to get her to the state tournament in Kansas City next week.
White shot a 90 Monday at Schifferdecker Golf Course in Joplin, earning ninth place overall to advance to state for the first time.
“It was one of my tougher rounds this season. I just couldn’t hit anything like I should, so it was a tough round, but I pulled it out,” White says.
When things aren’t going well, White says she tries to stay focused on the fundamentals to stay on track.
“It’s tough to get carried away with nerves and stress…but you just have to focus on those key points in your swing that you have to continue doing to keep scoring good.”
Two other Lady Tigers qualified for sectionals. Clara Fronabarger shot a 96, missing the cut by three strokes. Regan Holmes finished with a 108. Both Fronabarger and Holmes are sophomores.
White says she’s excited to qualify for state for the first time in her third year of playing.
“I’ve worked hard to get there, so it will be fun just to experience it, really,” she says. “Whatever I place is good enough for me, because I got there.”
