Lady Tigers Win Two, Suffer First Loss in Tourney Play

Even on a day when they lost their first game of the season, the Lady Tigers softball team still managed to win twice. Hosting tournament games this weekend, Republic won two of its three Friday games, beating Rolla 8-2, losing to Platte County 8-2, and shutting out East Newton 11-0. Megan Weis racked up eight hits in the three games to lead Republic.

Republic 8, Rolla 2

Mara Lakey pitched well in her first varsity start, allowing just two runs (one earned) in seven innings of work against Rolla. Rolla managed just six hits. Lakey struck out four and walked one.

Megan Weis had a perfect game at the plate. She was 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Julia Higgins homered and drove in four runs. AJ Fenske had two hits and a walk.

Platte County 8, Republic 2

In Republic’s first loss of the year, the Lady Tigers habit of falling behind finally caught up with them. Platte County scored five runs in the first inning and three more in the second off Republic starter Avery Romans. Only four of Platte County’s eight runs were earned.

Megan Weis had two hits to lead Republic. Kaitlyn Ragsdale and AJ Fenske had one hit each, and those were the only four hits.

Republic 11, East Newton 0

Republic rebounded from its loss with a romp over East Newton to finish the day. Livi Collier and Julia Higgins both homered, and the Lady Tigers racked up 14 hits. Higgins and Kaitlyn Ragsdale led the way with three hits apiece. Ragsdale scored three runs and stole two bases. Megan Weis had two more hits, and so did Collier. Collier also pitched for Republic, picking up the win. She allowed seven hits in a five-inning shutout.
