The Lady Tigers exploded for five goals in the second half to pull away from West Plains in a 7-0 win to start the weekend Parkview Tournament Friday. Five different players scored for Republic, and the defense turned in its third consecutive shutout.
“At the beginning of the season, Clara and Anna had a lot of the goals, and I felt like a lot of the girls were really close to being able to break through,” says coach Kevin Hauck. “Today, they finally were able to do it, on some nice goals, too.”
Hauck says the variety of offensive options will make the Lady Tigers better as the season progresses.
“Moving forward, that really opens it up offensively for us, and I think that gives us more opportunities and makes us better as a team.”
Sarah Hicks and Clara Fronabarger had two goals apiece for Republic. Hicks’ first goal was the first of her career, and Signe Wulff also scored her first varsity goal for Republic. Jones had a goal and three assists, and Emma Pearce added one goal and one assist. Abbie Hicks assisted on the goal by her sister, Sarah.
