Republic welcomed Central Ozark Conference rivals Neosho and Ozark to town Thursday — and thoroughly drubbed both of them before sending them on their way. The Tigers beat Neosho 9-0 and followed it up with an 8-1 win over Ozark to sweep the doubleheader.
In the day’s opener against Neosho, Republic lost only six games total in nine matches. The closest match of the day was in #1 singles, where Dylan Mackey beat Julian Henderson 8-3.
In a more competitive match against Ozark, Republic sealed the win with two very close singles victories. Both Dylan Mackey and Austin Massey edged their singles opponents 9-7, helping Republic complete a sweep of singles. Both Mackey and Massey were tied 7-7 before winning the final two games.
With the outcome already decided, Republic won two of three doubles matches to close out the day. The only loss was a close one. Brett Carpenter and Isaac Jordan had nearly climbed out of a 7-4 hole to tie their match, but they lost a deuce (no ad) point at 7-6 to drop an 8-6 decision.
Republic’s overall varsity record improves to 13-1; JV record 9-0. Next up: Republic Varsity Tournament Friday (all day). JV will be at the Joplin JV tournament all day.
