Republic got better as the game went on, pulling away from Parkview for a 3-0 win on the road on a rainy Wednesday night at JFK Stadium in Springfield.
The Lady Tigers had been scheduled to host Parkview, but wet conditions caused the game to be moved to the artificial turf. The rain continued to fall throughout most of the game, but Republic wasn’t phased. Clara Fronabarger gave the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute, and Anna Jones found the back of the net with less than a minute remaining in the first half to lift Republic to a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Emma Pearce rounded out the scoring and put Republic firmly in control when she pounced on a rebound after a Fronabarger shot. She left-footed it into the goal before the Parkview keeper could recover to make it 3-0.
The Lady Tigers controlled the pace for most of the game, but they were even better after halftime.
“I think we kind of got into a rhythm. In the first half, we did a nice job controlling the pace, but I thought we missed some runs and missed some opportunities in the second half,” says coach Kevin Hauck. “We were around the goal a lot. We just weren’t able to finish, but we did a nice job of keeping pressure on their side.”
Hauck says he made some defensive changes going into the game after the Lady Tigers had allowed seven goals combined in a win and a loss to open the season.
“We did some stuff working up to this game to fix some problems that we had at Rogersville, and I thought we did a much better job of that tonight,” Hauck says. “Defensively, we’re playing with two freshmen on the back line that are learning, and we’re trying to mesh back there, and tonight we did a nice job back there. As the season goes, they’re going to get more comfortable and we’re going to get more comfortable as a team, and our defense is only going to get better.”
Fronabarger had two assists to go with her goal. Kayla Donjuan also added an assist for the Lady Tigers.
The JV team won 2-0. Hannah Lease scored both goals and Rileigh Smith had an assist. The JV Lady Tigers are 3-0.

Farr Better Player of the Game
Freshman Clara Fronabarger continued her quick start with another big offensive night. Fronabarger scored one goal and assisted on two others. She also kept pressure on Parkview’s defense all night, even when she wasn’t scoring, and she was our Farr Better Player of the Game.
