Fumbles Cause Stumble in Tiger Baseball Loss

Republic committed six errors to help Rogersville pull away for a 10-4 win in the Tigers’ home opener Tuesday night.

One of the lone bright spots for Republic was Tyler Cavener, who reached base three times, with two walks and a double. He also stole a base.

Clayton Crowley started on the mound for the Tigers and took the loss. He pitched four innings and allowed six runs — but only one of those runs was earned. He struck out two and walked two. Tim McWilliams pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed four runs (two earned), and Luke Long finished the game for Republic, working 1 1/3 innings of one-hit ball.

The Tigers’ only scoring came in a three-run third inning, after Rogersville had taken a 4-0 lead. With two outs and nobody on, Cavener drew a walk and Landin Sigman singled on a pop fly to shallow right field. Rogersville’s players and coaches thought the ball was caught, but officials ruled Sigman safe, and by the time the play had ended, Cavener had scored to make it 4-1. Cameron Beck doubled home a run, then Jacob Crosswhite followed with another RBI double to make it 4-3, but that’s as close as Republic would get.

The Tigers fall to 1-1. They’ll try to turn it around Wednesday when they host Webb City. The varsity game begins at 4:30.
