Off the Field: Event Notes

Each week, we’ll step Off the Field to take a closer look at some of the Republic students who are competing in non-sports activities. Our weekly report is brought to you by State Farm Agent Sarah Rader. Talk to her about how you can save money by combining your home and auto insurance.

It’s been a busy week for competitions off the field at Republic. Here are a few of the highlights.

  • The RHS programming team finished second at the Hack for Good High School programming contest.
  • The choral music program at Republic continues to excel. For the first time ever this year, four students from RHS were chosen to be part of the All-State Choir. Twenty-four students from Republic participated in the event, so one-sixth of Republic participants made all-state. The four selections from Republic were Rachel Berry, Steven Brymer, Megan Sly, and Hannah Wells.
  • Fifteen Republic band students placed at district band competition in Marshfield. Among the top performers were Ian Zinecker (First guitar, jazz band), Megan Garbee (First trumpet alternate, jazz band), Emily Wheeler (First baritone sax alternate), Maggic Moncado (First tenor sax alternate), And Olivia Piekarski (First alto sax alternate). They’re among the Republic students who’ll have a chance to audition at state in early December.
  • Six RHS Speech and Debate students won trophies last weekend at the Missouri State/Gloria Deo tournament. Julia Higgins was a quarterfinalist in Varsity Lincoln Douglas debate. Evelyn Tippie won second place in Novice Humorous Interpretation. Hailey Gold took fourth place in Novice Program of Oral Interpretation. Mikayla Steinert and Victoria Ogbeifun were quarterfinalists in Varsity Public Forum, and Ogbeifun also took second place in Varsity Radio Speaking. Garrett Silvey finished first in Novice Informative Speaking.
