Tigers’ Late Strike Sinks Vikes

It took 74 minutes, but the Republic soccer team finally got what it needed. Dylan Brown chased down a ball from Drew Flippin, streaked up the right sideline, beat his defender and pounded the ball into the far corner of the net to give Republic a 1-0 victory on the road Thursday.

The win marked the second shutout of the season for Republic goalkeeper Dalton Ghan and the defense. Coach Kevin Hauck says the Tigers were out of sync offensively most of the game.

“We really struggled with moving the ball tonight. We were a little stagnant off the ball, and not really moving to get open,” Hauck says. “Hopefully, we get back to the simple things and back to what was making us a strong team earlier in the year. The win is nice, but I want us to clean some things up and get after it a little bit more.”

Republic is back in action Friday afternoon at the Parkview Tournament. They play Marshfield at 3 p.m. at JFK Stadium, then have two more games on Saturday (8:30 a.m. vs. Green Ridge on grass; 12:30 p.m. vs Ozark on turf).
