Tigers Bite Bulldogs for Ninth Straight Win

Dylan Brown scored five more goals — all in the first half — to lead Republic in a 6-1 romp over Springfield Central at home Tuesday night. Drew Flippin had the other goal for Republic. Aaron Scobee put the ball in the back of the net as time wound down, but officials waved the goal off, even though the whistle had not sounded at the time.

Flippin ended with a goal and an assist. Trenton Roetto also picked up an assist, and so did goalkeeper Dalton Ghan. It was Ghan’s second assist of the season.

The defense also turned in another solid effort. Central’s lone goal came on a penalty kick in the first half—otherwise, the defense and Ghan would have pitched another shutout.

Brown got the scoring started just nine minutes into the game, and added a second goal in the 15th minute. After Central scored five minutes later, Brown helped Republic extend its lead to 3-1 in the 32nd minute on a free kick from about 30 yards out. That started a flurry of scoring in which Brown scored three times in two minutes. By the time the barrage was over, Republic led 5-1.

It took just ten minutes into the second half for Flippin to add his goal, accounting for the final score.

Two players in Missouri history have scored six goals in a half — and Brown is now one of seven others who have scored five in that span. His five goals increased his career total to 79, and pulled him within eight of Julio Quezada’s career record of 87.

Republic is 11-2, after a 2-2 start. They compete in the Kickapoo Tournament this weekend.
