On Senior Night for the Lady Tigers tennis squad, it was fitting that both seniors captured two victories en route to an 8-1 Republic win over Joplin. Heather Georges and Molly Womack both won their singles matches, and they both partnered with someone else for a doubles victory. Some of those victories were easier than others.
In #1 doubles, Womack and Kaitlyn Snyder just barely managed to hang on for a 9-7 win over Ashley Butler and Phoebe Watson. In #2 doubles, Georges paired with Katie Stiles for an 8-1 win. (Republic swept doubles play when Carly McAtee and Jordyn Gianopulos teamed up for an 8-3 victory.)
In singles, the only loss came at the top of the lineup, as Butler handed Kaitlyn Snyder a rare loss.
“ a good team win over a very competitive Joplin squad,” says coach Eric Hanson. “Our doubles teams helped us get out to an early lead and several good singles matches closed the deal.”
Republic’s two seniors, Georges and Womack, have played a role in some of the Lady Tigers’ most successful seasons ever. Georges finished third at the individual district tournament as a sophomore and has been an anchor of the Lady Tigers’ team ever since. Womack was also a contributor as a sophomore, working her way up the lineup along with Georges. Both were part of the Lady Tigers’ first Central Ozark Conference title last year, and are pursuing their second straight league championship this year.
Republic’s JV defeated Joplin 10-5.
With the win, Republic’s varsity team improves to 10-0. The Lady Tigers are off again until next Friday, when they host their own varsity tournament.
