The Lady Tigers tennis team didn’t enter the Central Ozark Conference Tournament today on a high note as it wanted. Republic dropped its last two dual meets of the season — 8-1 Monday against Springfield Catholic, and 5-4 on the road at Branson Tuesday.
Springfield Catholic is one of the top teams in the area, and Republic added the Irish to the regular-season schedule to beef up the quality of its 2017 competition. The loss to Branson was the first in COC play for the Lady Tigers since 2015. Republic had won 13 straight dual matches. Republic ended its conference regular season in a tie with Branson and Ozark for the regular-season title.
“In the COC, if you show up and get a slow start, it’s really hard to win, and that’s what we did tonight,” Hanson said of the loss at Branson. “Branson had a good night, winning two close doubles matches and finishing with three close singles wins. Snyder had a great night, winning a good doubles match with Womack and a nice singles match. As a team, we need to put this behind us.”
The COC Tournament is being held today at Joplin.
