The Lady Tigers volleyball team made it two wins in a row with a home match victory over Mountain Grove Thursday. Republic won its first set easily, 25-11, and jumped on top in the second set before Mountain Grove clawed its way back into contention. The Lady Tigers held on for a 25-23 victory in the second set.
Coach Piper Wright says following up the Lady Tigers’ win over Glendale with another win at home Thursday was a big momentum boost for her team.
“It’s huge. We need to try to pad as many wins as we can, because it’s going to just get tougher and tougher from here,” Wright says.
Rylee Moseman continued her strong start with four kills, while Bella Drennan added four kills and eight assists. Reese Watkins led the team with eight digs and four service aces. Taegan Thomas added a block for the Lady Tigers.
“Our defense looked really good,” says Wright. “And we’ve worked quite a bit on our setter-hitter connections, and you could tell. We were able to use our middles a little bit more. We’ve struggled with that the last couple of games. Just giving more options on the front row really helped us tonight.”
Republic improves to 5-4 overall. The JV also won (25-9, 25-17).
