The Republic soccer team flashed a preview of the firepower they hope to showcase all season in a 4-1 win at Monett Tuesday night. The Tigers’ leading scorer from a year ago, Dylan Brown, scored a hat trick to lead the way. Trenton Roetto had a goal and an assist, and Austin Beck also contributed an assist for the Tigers.
Republic broke on top with two quick goals by Brown, about a minute apart, early in the 1st half. Brown’s first goal came on a free kick from about 20 yards out, after he’d been tripped up by a Monett defender. A minute later, Roetto fed Dylan from the right wing and Brown finished to make it 2-0.
The Cubs cut the lead to 2-1 in the 74th minute, when Jason Puente assisted Freddy Ramirez. After that, though, Republic responded with better ball possession—and eventually two more scores.
Brown completed a hat trick in the 67th minute on a feed from Beck, sliding the ball past the charging keeper. Seven minutes later, Brown was fouled in the goal box, leading to Roetto’s goal on a penalty kick.
The JV Tigers lost to Monett 3-1.
Republic improves to 1-0. They travel to Lebanon for a game Thursday.
