The stunning turnaround of the Lady Tigers soccer team continued at home Tuesday night with a 4-0 win over Central Ozark Conference rival Branson. Anna Jones scored a goal and assisted on three others to help Republic win its fourth game in a row.
Emily Jordan continued to make up for lost time since returning to the lineup. She scored two goals and assisted on a third. Abbie Hicks also scored for the Lady Tigers.
Over the last four games, Republic has scored 19 unanswered goals after scoring just six goals in its first 14 games. The sudden improvement like nothing coach Kevin Hauck has ever seen.
“This has been my first season where you have an uphill battle, and it seems like you finally get up the mountain and you’ve made it. You survived it as a team and it’s all downhill from there, which is just really nice,” Hauck says of his team’s improvement. “They were able to switch it on quickly.”
Hauck says it’s clear now that the young players thrown into action by Republic’s early-season injuries were learning their roles all along, even when the wins were elusive.
“It tells me that the girls were ready to play. They just needed a field general to lead them, and when EJ came back, it was like they found that field general,” Hauck says. “Everybody else was ready to go. She came back and they just stepped up with her.”
