Blake Messier and Josh Gentry traded roles but teamed up on the mound to give Republic its second straight win Friday night, 5-2 at Cassville. One week after Gentry started and Messier got the save against Kearney, it was Messier who started and picked up the victory, with Gentry stepping in to get the save.
The Tigers banged out a season-high 10 base hits. Austin Atkins, batting in the #3 spot in the lineup, had two of them to go with a walk and two RBIs. Cameron Beck had two hits and two RBIs as well, and Landin Sigman added two hits.
Messier pitched four innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out three and walked two. Gentry pitched three shutout innings in relief, striking out one, allowing two hits and no walks.
Republic improves to 2-4. The Tigers play a double-header tomorrow at home. Theyll host state-ranked Aurora at 10 a.m. and Camdenton at 2 p.m. In-between those games, Aurora and Camdenton will play.
