Thirty minutes into the game, Springfield Central slipped the ball past the Lady Tiger defense for the only goal of the night, pulling out a 1-0 victory in a non-conference match in Springfield Thursday.
The Lady Tigers never mounted a sustained attack, even in the final ten minutes, as Coach Kevin Hauck implored them to get more aggressive and push up the field.
“We played well, but I thought we were tentative. I thought we could have wanted it more,” Hauck says. “Thats something I can’t teach them. They have to have that from inside. They’re going to have to want more,” he says. “I want it, but I’m not out there on the field.”
Hauck pointed out missed opportunities down the stretch that were thwarted by a lack of aggressiveness.
“I told them, ‘You’re down by one, you’re under 10 minutes, and instead of pushing up like we need to be, and being aggressive up here to help. We have a couple of good chances: the ball was up here, but only two were up here, instead of getting everybody up here … to help keep the pressure up,” he says.
Republic is off until next Tuesday. The Lady Tigers will host Neosho as they attempt to improve to 2-0 in the conference.
