The Tiger baseball team had a chance to capture its first victory of the season Tuesday night, but let it slip away. Rogersville scored a single run to tie the game in the seventh inning, then scored two more in the eighth for a 5-3 victory.
Austin Atkins had two base hits, an RBI, and a run scored for the Tigers. Republic had five base hits in all, equaling their total from the first two games of the season.
Josh Gentry started the game and pitched well. He went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. He struck out three and walked two.
Rogersville scored two runs in the 4th inning, but Republic scored two in the fifth to tie the game. Blake Messier let off with a double and Atkins singled him home. Atkins later scored on a passed ball.
The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Landin Sigman single and scored on a subsequent error.
Cameron Beck recorded the first two outs in the top of the seventh, but an error and a walk set up the game-tying single by Rogersville to send the game into extra innings.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the eighth inning, one on a passed ball and another on a sacrifice fly, to escape with the win.
Caleb Cadanova picked up the win for Rogersville. Beck suffered the loss. He pitched two innings and allowed three runs, but only one of those was earned. He struck out two, walked two, and allowed four hits.
Republic falls to 0-3. They travel to Nixa Thursday.

American Family Baseball Tiger of the Game
Josh Gentry turned in a solid pitching performance and had the Tigers in their best position of the year to pick up a win. Gentry allowed only two runs, and left the game with the Tigers and Wildcats tied, 2-2. His solid start on the mound earned him our American Family Baseball Tiger of the Game honor.
