Injury-Plagued Lady Tigers Stumble vs Glendale

If the Lady Tigers are disappointed after a 3-0 home loss to Glendale, coach Kevin Hauck wants them to know that’s all right.

“This is a game you can feel disappointed about. I don’t feel like they’re three goals better than us. We’re just missing a lot of girls right now. We’re injury-depleted and it really shows,” Hauck says.

An injury-plagued season got even worse Thursday, when the Lady Tigers played without leading scorer and captain Emily Jordan. She was injured Tuesday night in a game against Parkview. Between Jordan and Madi Mitchell, that’s 45 goals worth of scoring from 2016 that didn’t take the field Thursday night because of injuries. Republic is also missing senior goalkeeper Jessica Laster.

Republic allowed a goal at the midway point of the first half, and stayed within a single score of Glendale until a corner kick at the 50th minute, when the ball popped out of Republic goalkeeper Tara Campbell’s hands as she collided with another player. A third goal a short time later put the game away.

Still, Hauck says his message to the girls is still ultimately hopeful as he looks at the remaining season.

“I told them it’s early. We’re a team going through tons of injuries. We’ve got tons of girls at new positions. We’re learning as a team,” he says. “We’re going to gain experience as we play.

We are going to get healthy, and that’s going to help us turn it around.”

Republic travels to St. Louis for a tournament this weekend.
