Nixa shortstop Brett Hammitt slugged a mammoth home run in the first inning, and the Eagles never looked back on their way to a 10-0 win over Republic at Nixa Thursday night. Hammitt’s solo home run got the ball rolling for the Eagles, but they added two more runs in the second inning, then four in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.
Blake Messier took the loss for Republic, allowing seven runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. He struck out four and walked three. Tyler Cavener pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief, allowing four hits but not giving up a run. A.J. Calhoon gave up three runs in 2/3 of an inning. Cameron Beck pitched, but didn’t record an out before Nixa took a 10-run lead to end the game.
Austin Atkins had two hits for the Tigers. Gus Bauer, Josh Gentry, and Max Fricks had one hit apiece. Gentry also added a stolen base.
The Tigers hit into two double plays and left seven runners on base, as they fell to 0-4.
